Annual Parochial Church Meetings Facilities in St. Mary’s Church, Bishop’s Cannings
Minutes of the Bishop’s Cannings and Etchilhampton PCC held on 5 March 08 - extractTreasurers Report - Mr W Allen suggested we adopt the Annual Report and Financial Statement subject to the Independent Examiner’s approval. This was proposed by Mrs J Combe and seconded by Mr A Stonell. There will be the annual membership survey next month. Facilities update - Mr W Allen reported a grant of £36,000 from the Kennet District Council has been secured and other charities are at present being approached. Etchilhampton - Mrs R Chadwick reported that she and her husband are arranging a concert in Etchilhampton Church on 31st May 2008 to be given by the Meridian Singers. Arrangement of Services - Mr W Allen reported that there is some feeling that the Come and Praise service is not very successful and it was decided to insert an item in the APCM agenda to provide a discussion and gather alternative ideas. Revd S Attwater also reminded the meeting that a new synod representative is now needed to replace the late Mr S White. Benefice and Deanery Plan - After discussion it was agreed to form a small group with representatives from each church to form a framework to plan which way to proceed. Mr A Stonell and Mrs M Annable offered to represent St Mary’s Church, Bishop’s Cannings.
Annual Parochial Church Meetings (APCMs) April 2008At these meetings we elect our church wardens, and our PCC members. Church wardens are elected on an annual basis and if you live within the parish boundary you are entitled to vote for them. PCC members are elected for three years on a rolling basis (i.e. one third of the membership of the PCC is elected each year) and those who are on the electoral roll of the church for which these people serve are entitled to vote for them. This year, we also elect our new deanery synod representatives. Deanery representatives serve for three years. They are elected by those whose names are on the church electoral roll. Notices regarding the APCMs and all nominations will be in all three of our churches. The dates of the APCMs are: For Bishop’s Cannings & Etchilhampton: For All Cannings:
Facilities in St. Mary’s Church, Bishop’s Cannings – updateThe first stage in obtaining approval from the Diocese involved submitting a lengthy questionnaire with full details and drawings of the proposed works. This has been completed and our application will be considered at a meeting of the Diocesan Advisory Committee on April 11th. Our architect, Chris Romain, is in the process of applying for planning permission from Kennet District Council. We are awaiting the result of our application for a grant from the Church and Community Fund and have put in applications for further grants from Awards for All, which is connected to the National Lottery and from the Community First landfill tax scheme. It will be some time before we learn whether or not we have been successful in the last of these two bids. As stated last month, even if we are successful, some fundraising amongst our local community will be needed and Rob Smith has very kindly agreed to mastermind how best to carry this out. We still hope to have completed all the planning processes and achieved assurance of the necessary funding to enable work to start in September with completion before the end of the year.
